My daughter always struggled at school. “Quirky,” they said — but underneath that word was a child misunderstood. Friendships were confusing. Learning felt like climbing a mountain.

I recognised parts of her in myself — the same overwhelm, the need for structure, the constant feeling of being slightly out of sync. But back then, I just thought I was being ‘difficult’.

It wasn’t until Year 5, when bullying and a lack of understanding from teachers pushed her to breaking point, that I realised how urgent the need for change was. A new school helped — wellbeing came first, and suddenly she started to thrive. But something was still there.

We were fortunate enough to access private assessments when the NHS waitlists became unbearable. Dyslexia confirmed. Autism confirmed. ADHD traits confirmed. And in the process of supporting her, I started asking questions about myself.

I was diagnosed too. Autism. ADHD. Late-diagnosed, like so many women. It made sense of so much — but it also opened my eyes to how broken the system is.

Secondary school undid so much of the progress she had made. Sensory overwhelm, detentions for panic attacks, no real understanding or support. We’re now in limbo, like so many others.

That’s why I created Neurodiverse City Hub.

A community. A resource. A place that connects the dots — for adults, children, and families who are left navigating this complex journey alone.

We want to change the system. We want mental health support that’s actually accessible. We want education that works for everyone. And we want to end the exhausting fight just to be seen, heard, and supported.

We’re not here to fix neurodivergent people. We’re here to fix the systems that fail them.

Join us. Be part of the change.
